Using Urchin 5 Web Statistics
You can use the statistics for any pages you personally created and that contain your information as part of your yearly report of accomplishments. You can get statistics for the number of hits and downloads from your pages or files (if you have put up pdf files be sure to count the information for those files also) from Urchin 5.
Getting to the Statistics for your Website
1. Go to http://webstats.ifas.ufl.edu
2. In the Username box put the full name of your website like; calhoun.ifas.ufl.edu
3. In the password box put ifasstats
4. Click on either the name of your website or the magnifying glass.
5. You will see the main reports page with a graph of the activity to your entire site for the past week.
6. You can use the calendar to change the dates if needed.

Getting the Information for your Individual Pages
1. 1. Click on Pages and Files in the Reports box on the left.
2. If you have placed your pages in a separate folder, such as Hort or 4H,
a. click on Directory Drilldown and then Directory by files drilldown.
b. Double click on your folder to see your files.
3. If your files are not in a separate folder you will have to look down through the whole site to find them.
a. Click on Pages and files and then Requested Pages or All Pages.
4. The default view is 10 pages at a time. You can use the drop down arrow next to # Shown to view up to 100 pages at a time. You can see the total number of pages on your site on the bar at the bottom of the box.

5.Use the Previous and Next buttons at the top and bottom of the pages box to find your files.

6. Record the number of times your page or file was viewed.
7. If you want to see what days the page was viewed click on the graph icon on the right and it will give you a breakdown of the number of hits per day over the selected time period. This information can be helpful if you had a program or event associated with the page.
8. You should also check the number of downloads of your pages and files. The downloads will show you how many times the file was saved to disk or printed. To check the downloads click on Downloads under Pages and Files in the Reports box.
Recording the Data
You can output the display to either Word or Excel by clicking on the appropriate button on the top bar. What you will get is a screen print (that is a view of the same thing that you see on your screen), not a complete list, so you will want to use the # Shown box to display the total number of pages. If you have over 100 pages to record you will have to save multiple times (output to multiple files and then combine into one file). The breakdown will show you how many hits per page and the total number of hits (this will be useful if you have all of your files in your own folder) . The output is editable.
Excel If you save to Excel you can use the calculation function of Excel to keep a running total.
a. Select the column that contains your data by clicking on the column header (probably D).
b. Right click and select Format cells.
c. Select Number under the Number tab and press OK.
d. Highlight the cells in that column
that contain numbers by
clicking in the first number
box and using the little
black handle in the lower
right hand corner of the box
to drag to the last box that
contains a number.
e. You will see, next to the first box, a problem icon, right click on it and select Convert to number.
f. If you have merged multiple sheets into one, you will want to enter a formula in your totals box so that it is a calculated number and not just the number that was displayed on the screen. To do this click in the box containing the totals and type =sum(d8:d108) where d8 is the first cell containing the data you want to add and d108 is the last cell containing the data you wish to add.
Other interesting Information
Under Domains and Users you can get information on
exactly who is visiting your web site:
o Domains will show you what search engines and Internet Service Providers people are using to access your website.
o Domain Drilldown will break it down into the type of domains that are accessing your website (like edu for education).
o Countries will show you in what country the visitor resides (everything that is not a specific country is US).
o IP address will break it down into what IP address or range of addresses accessed your website and usually, but not always, you can get specific information on who that is by clicking on the IP address (Inktomi is a webcrawler that some of the major search engines use to search).
Referrals will show you what page a user was on
that linked to your website, for instance google.com/search would
indicate that the user had gone to Google and done a search from
which they found and linked to your website.
Search Terms will list the terms that people
put into a search engine that resulted in their finding and going to
your website.
Under Navigation the Length of Pageview report
will tell you how long the average person spent looking at your
page. This information is helpful to know whether they actually
viewed the page or just glanced at it and went on.
Under Pages and Files you can use the Status and
Errors report to see whether or not your site is functioning
properly or if you have some problems that need to be cleaned up.
Unfortunately it does not break it down so you can see which pages
are the problem so you will have to look for them if there are any
like Not Found or Partial content etc.
