Windows Vista
The new version of Windows, VISTA Enterprise, is not being deployed at this time. Many of the computers in the NW District are still not capable of running Windows VISTA. In addition some of the software that is in wide use by District faculty and staff does not run on the new operating system. This includes Envelope Manager, Blue Ribbon and some of the HR software accessed through the my.ufl.edu website. In addition many people have experienced printer problems with VISTA. Some of the faculty in the NW District have elected to use the new operating system on their new machines, even though there are known problems with the system.
I have received many questions about when VISTA would be deployed and if everyone would have to go to it. There is a group in the IT department on campus that is working with VISTA to try and determine what all the issues might be for faculty and staff and to seek resolutions to those issues before it is released. Since there are computers that are not capable of running VISTA, it will not be a requirement, when it is released that everyone upgrade to it.
