This week’s featured video is part two of the Mr. Peanut Super Bowl commercial saga.  The advertising staff of the Planters company must have had a lot of fun dreaming up this advertising campaign for the Super Bowl.  First they killed him off with a heroic act in the video I shared last week:  RIP Mr. Peanut.  That was released through twitter and YouTube. But, in respect of the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, the company decided not to air this commercial during the Super Bowl.  They did actually show the second half of their campaign, which was the funeral for Mr. Peanut, during the 3rd quarter of the Super Bowl.  But what happens when you bury a peanut seed?  New peanuts!  So clearly this comical advertising campaign has a happy ending as Baby Nut (Mr. Peanut Jr.) was born to carry on the tradition of promoting peanut snack foods.  And of course, Baby Nut has taken over Mr. Peanut’s Twitter account.  You can see the reaction on social media this week by searching using the #babynut.

While I realize this is all pretty silly, it is drawing a lot of national attention to peanuts, which is a staple crop for this region of the U.S.  Baby Nut magically sprouts from the top of the plant in the video, instead of emerging from underground, but at least he did not grow from a tree.  I wonder how long it will be before Baby Nut will start driving the Nutmobile?  I guess after 104 years, it was time for a new look for Mr. Peanut.
