Nutrient management is an integral part of every cropping system. With ever increasing fertilizer cost and the greater need for environmental stewardship, UF/IFAS has been partnering with local farmers to evaluate nitrogen management on-farm in cotton using nitrogen calibration strips.

These on-farm fertility trials have six nitrogen strips, the rates include 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 units of nitrogen. There are three replicated trial locations, two farms in Jackson County and one farm in Jefferson County. All rates of Nitrogen were applied the same day as planting or the following day.

As result of these on-farm trials, extension is hosting two Precision Ag Field Days (one in each county) to showcase these nitrogen calibration strips. Each event will be 9 AM to 12 PM in its respective time zone (CST/EST) and will end with lunch on-site. Participants with a valid Florida restricted use pesticide license will earn one core CEU. Pre-registration is mandatory for each event to get an accurate headcount for lunch, food is not guaranteed for participants without pre-registration. For the Jackson County event, contact the Jackson County Extension Office at 850-482-960 or email For the Jefferson County Event, contact the Jefferson County Extension Office at 850-342-0187 or email
