Cold Hardy Citrus Field Day – October 26

Citrus growers from across the Big Bend and Florida Panhandle, as well as from Southern Georgia and Alabama are invited to attend the 2023 UF/IFAS Cold Hardy Citrus Field Day. The workshop will be held at the UF/IFAS North Florida Research and Education Center in Quincy (155 Research Road, Quincy, FL). Registration begins at 8:15 AM EST with the meeting starting at 8:30 AM and concluding with lunch. The workshop registration fee is $5 and includes educational materials, snacks, and lunch.

This event will feature a demonstration of citrus sap flow monitoring for irrigation management and a tour of the grove at the UF/IFAS NFREC, featuring several new varieties with an in-field discussion. Other topics include controlled release fertilizer management, variety diversification options, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies for citrus production.

Assistant Professor of Horticulture at Horticultural Sciences Department, North Florida Research and Education Center

The main theme of my lab is to develop an integrated research and extension program in stress tolerance and physiology of fruit crops that includes cold hardy citrus, tree fruit, tree nuts, and small fruits. I am interested in investigating the influence of biotic (pest & diseases) and abiotic stressors (heat, cold, drought, salinity, heavy metal toxicity etc.) and their interactive effect on morphological, physiological, biochemical, and anatomical attributes in fruit crops, and identify mitigation strategies (nutrient & water management, PGRs, tolerant genotypes, cultural practices) enhancing resilience to these stressors with improved production. This fits well with my extension goal of providing fruit producers with relevant, research-based information for improving farm productivity, profitability and produce quality through smart-agricultural-practices in climate change scenario.
