Counties in the Florida Panhandle have a strong commitment to growing our teen leaders. Teens as volunteers are one of our most underutilized resources. In addition to the social capitol that they can provide to Extension programs, teens who are engaged as volunteers do better in school, feel more positive about themselves, and avoid risky behaviors (Child Trends, 2006). In addition, communities benefit by having citizens who are more likely to vote, have a more positive work ethic, and are more socially responsible.
