This week’s featured video highlights a unique type of livestock operation that is gaining popularity very quickly in Florida, Deer Farming. The video is actually an episode of Keith Warren’s TV Show called Deer & Wildlife Stories. The video features two deer farms located in the Panhandle of Florida that are raising deer with superior genetics to the native deer population. Bontrager Whitetails, Marianna (Jackson County), and Sweetwater Plantation, Rock Bluff, (Liberty County) are utilizing high-tech science such as artificial insemination (A.I.) and embryo transfer (E.T.) just like elite registered cattle operations to develop superior breeding lines. They are also utilizing high quality forages such as perennial peanut and forage soybeans to provide a high plane of nutrition to these superior animals. You just have to watch this video to see what these two deer farms are producing from their white-tailed deer breeding herds.
Note: This video is much longer than the typical YouTube videos I have shared, 21 minutes long, so make sure to watch it when you have enough time to give it your attention.
