Florida now has an affiliate chapter of the American Forage & Grassland Council (AFGC),  This newly formed group is seeking farmers, ranchers, forage industry professionals, and extension specialists, and county agents  to develop an official organization focused solely on improving forage production and research in Florida.

Florida Forage & Grassland Council Objectives:

  • Promote sustainable and profitable forage production on all size and types of operations across Florida
  • Provide a forum for collaboration between producers, university specialists, and industry professionals
  • Advance the development of improved forages across the State of Florida
  • Educated producers, students, and youth about Florida Forages
  • Expand knowledge of forage and grassland production nationwide through affiliation with AFGC

A state forage council provides a focal point for the diverse forage interests in the state. It is a source of leadership, new ideas, and support for all types of forage activities. It identifies needs and offers a means to concentrate resources to meet those needs. It is a sponsoring organization which can work closely with University educational and research programs.”  Dr. Harlan White, Virginia Extension Forage Specialist
