This week’s featured video shares the story of the development of the Solectrac all-electric utility tractor by Steve Heckeroth, Founder and CEO.  The company is still in the early production and development stage of tractors.  The Solectrac 40-horse utility tractor offers 4-8 hours of runtime on a single charge, with the ability to charge the battery to 80% in three hours, or overnight for a full charge.  The company estimates a battery life of 10 years.  All-electric tractors could offer some real value to farmers in the future, with no need to purchase diesel fuel and the durability and simplicity of electric motors reducing repair and maintenance costs.  It will be interesting to watch as this technology is further developed for the farming industry over the next decade.  Thanks to Dr. Pete Vergot, UF/IFAS Northwest District Extension Director for sending in this video to share.
