October is peanut harvest season, but it is also the month of the Peanut Butter Challenge across Florida. To celebrate the kickoff of the Peanut Butter Challenge, I thought it would be a great time to share this wonderful video published by Georgia Public Broadcasting. In the video, Donald Chase, Chase Farms, Oglethorpe, Georgia, provides a complete overview of peanut farming, harvest, grading, and processing. This would be a great video to share on social media, in a school classroom, or other setting to educate consumers on this special crop that is so important to the agricultural economy in the Southeast.
The Peanut Butter Challenge is a statewide UF/IFAS Extension activity every October. Extension Offices are collecting donations of unopened jars of peanut butter for distribution though food pantries in each county. To learn more, visit the Peanut Butter Challenge website, or stop by your Local County Extension Office in the month of October to donate jars of peanut butter.
