2023 has been a hard year for farmers and ranchers in the Panhandle with heat, drought, high-priced inputs, and high interest rates.  As this growing season comes to an end, I thought it might help to go back in history to see what farm life was like in the early 1950s.  This film was developed to encourage rural electrification and to help farmers embrace new technology that could make life on the farm better.  There are a lot of things that modern people take for granted.  Electricity delivered to the home and farm certainly changed people’s lives.  Yes, it did add another bill to be paid, but this video makes you think about what a blessing electricity was for the people who lived and worked on farms in the early 1950s.  There were rural electrification boards that worked to get electricity to every household and business.  Today I serve on a local board that is focused on broadband coverage for rural areas.  Watch the video to go back in history to a time when daily operations on farms and in the home were much different.  After watching it, I know you will realize what a blessing electricity became in rural America.  As hard as things were this year, I doubt any of us would want to go back to 1951 to live and farm without electricity.
