This week’s featured video was published by NBC news to highlight new technology being utilized in farming. Large-scale vegetable farming is huge business in California, Arizona, and South Florida. This industry has been very reliant on migrant labor to be successful. With increasing minimum wages, farmers find themselves competing with many other industries for labor. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the new buzz in numerous industries, and farming is no different. For decades the agriculture industry has developed machinery to minimize manual labor, but new technology being developed now are not just mechanical, but also intelligent with the integration of computers and sensors. In this video you will see a machine that uses real-time data analysis from multiple sensors to zap weeds with precision lasers to eliminate weeds on an organic vegetable farm. According to the developer, this million dollar machine could replace the manual labor of 30 people. This is just one example of the type of AI technology that may transform farming in the future. Watch the video to see this innovative approach to solving a major challenge with AI.
