Jimmy Carter was born October 1, 1924, and was raised just outside of Plains, Georgia on a peanut farm. Carter died at the age of 100 on December 29, 2024. Carter served as the 39th President from 1977-1981. To pay tribute to Jimmy Carter’s life, the Georgia Peanut Commission recently published a segment of video recorded in 2008. As a young boy in 1929 and 1930, Carter harvested, washed, boiled and sold 20 bags of boiled peanuts each day in town before lunch to earn a dollar a day. Watch the video to hear Carter compare this young entrepreneur’s income to the hard-working people of the time.
