This week’s featured video was published by American Farm Bureau. Each year, at the American Farm Bureau Convention, a Farm Dog of the Year is recognized. In 2025, the winner was a guardian dog from a Florida Horse Farm.

The winner of the 2025 Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year award is Sirius, a 6-year-old Maremma sheepdog owned by Florida Farm Bureau members Jorge and Debbie Garcia-Bengochea.  Livestock guardian dog Sirius is the “hero behind the heroes.” He protects a herd of miniature therapy horses that bring comfort to adults and children in hospitals, hospice programs, and assisted living programs, in addition to families, veterans and first responders who have experienced traumatic events. Owners Jorge and Debbie Garcia-Bengochea know the horses are safe when Sirius, a Maremma sheepdog, is on alert.

Watch the video to see how Sirius supports the Florida Horse Farm where he lives and works.
