Hogs have long been a troublesome issue for farmers and landowners. However, in recent years however, whitetail deer have become more and more of a concern, rapidly becoming one of the primary crop pests discussed by growers. Both species are now a serious concern for growers.
On February 25th, 2025, UF/IFAS Extension, Jackson County will host a Crop Predation Meeting to discuss principles of deer and hog management designed to mitigate their damage. The event will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM CST at the Jackson County Agricultural Center (2741 Penn Ave, Marianna, FL). Speakers at the event will include Drs. Carolina Baruzzi and Hance Ellington from UF/IFAS, Lanie Carter from FWC, and Kip Adams from the National Deer Association. There will also be hog trap demonstrations from Pig Brig and JAGER PRO. The meeting will conclude with a panel discussion comprised of the various speakers to further discuss deer and hog management strategies and research projects.
