Over the past five years, millions of Americans have built a coop and welcomed chickens to their farms, ranches, and homesteads. Poultry ownership has skyrocketed, with nearly 11 million American families having a coop.

Barnyard poultry producers from across the region are invited to attend Keepers of the Coop, a one-day educational event focused on improving flock health, productivity, and success through science-based practices. This program is developed with the local, barnyard, or backyard producer in mind. It will be a place to meet fellow poultry enthusiasts and build a network with local experts to support the success of your coop.

The conference will take place on February 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST at 1169 E. Highway 90, Bonifay, Florida 32425.

The program is hosted by UF/IFAS Extension, in collaboration with Auburn University Poultry Science and Lead for America.

Designed for backyard and small-scale poultry producers, the conference will feature expert-led sessions covering essential topics, including:

  • Poultry disease
  • Nutrition
  • Biosecurity
  • Egg production
  • Incubation
  • Coop design and housing

Participants will gain practical, research-based knowledge to help advance their coop operations and overall flock success.

Interested attendees are encouraged to register early at go.ufl.edu/coop26. For additional information, contact UF/IFAS Extension Holmes County at 850-547-1108.
