This week’s featured video was published by Chris Chase, who is a storm chaser, to explain how meteorologists utilize radar for monitoring the movement and severity of storms. If you are a farmer or outdoor enthusiast of any type, you have likely utilized a radar app on your smart phone to monitor rainfall in your area. This video provides a better understanding of how this technology works, and what the different colors and shades mean on the radar images. Doppler radar can even differentiate the intensity and direction of wind in relation to the radar station. Watch this video for a better understanding of how meteorologist utilize radar for estimating where tornadoes may be forming and the direction they are moving to warn people ahead of severe storms. Thanks to Pam Knox, Director of the UGA Weather Network and Agricultural Climatologist, for sharing this video on her blog called Climate and Agriculture in the Southeast.
