This week’s featured video comes from the historic archives of the University of Georgia that was published to YouTube by the Carrabelle History Museum. This short 1940s documentary entitled, “Suwanee Pine” was produced by the Georgia Agricultural Extension Service, with assistance from the American Turpentine Farmers Association Cooperative. Turpentine was a significant farm product from pine forest production in southern states. If you have ever walked in the woods and saw an old pine with V cut in the bark, this was from fresh sap collection for the production of turpentine. At the end of the film the producers highlight many of the key products that were produced from turpentine for everyday use in the home. I hope you enjoy this historic film that offers a brief glimpse of farm life in the South in the 1940s.
