The dates are set for the 2024 Panhandle Cattlemen’s College. This 3-day field event will take place October 28-30, 2024 at the North Florida Research and Education Center (NFREC) Beef Unit, near Marianna, Florida. This program focuses on reproductive and applied beef cattle management skills practiced in the field. Participants spend three days chute-side working through all aspects of herd management, practicing all skills on live animals. The goal is to have everyone leave feeling comfortable and capable with a set of skills they have practiced on live animals that will enhance their ability to better manage their own herds.

Artificial Insemination Course

Applied hands-on course will train participants in all aspects of artificial insemination (the original A.I.) and synchronization. Each day will feature time practicing on cows, chute-side A.I. techniques. This course will end with the opportunity for participants to receive a certificate of certification for A.I. The cost is $400 and will include meals and refreshments. BQA certification is included in registration fee for this course. The 2024 A.I. class is currently full, so the best way to ensure your spot for next year is to participate in the Applied Beef Cattle Skills class, as this group receives first chance to register for the subsequent years A.I. class! 

Applied Beef Cattle Skills

A chute-side practicum will focus on basic cattle productive skills that will enhance your ability to manage your herd. An array of basic skills will be covered that will include cattle handling, pulling calves, tubing calves, tagging, castration, dehorning, giving injections, growth implanting and more. This course is designed for participants who are looking to expand their knowledge of applied management practices with the opportunity to practice these skills on live cattle. The cost is $300 and will include meals and refreshments. BQA certification is included in registration fee for this course.

Beef Quality Assurance Training

A beef quality assurance (BQA) certification training will be offered as a stand-alone program on the morning of Monday, October 28, 2024. Completing this program will result in BQA certification. Producers can choose to attend the BQA training only, without attending the other tracks.  A steak lunch will be sponsored by Josh Churchwell with Merck Animal Health following the BQA training.
