The rain just keeps on coming. August was another wet month and many farms and ranches in the Florida Panhandle are saturated. The National Weather Service estimates much of the Panhandle received more than eight inches and some areas more than 15 inches in August. The following chart shows what the UF/IFAS Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN) stations recorded in August. Most areas are nearing average annual rainfall totals, and there are still four more months left in 2013.
Temperatures remained fairly mild for most of August because of all the rain, but when it did not rain, it was certainly hot and steamy. As seen in the chart below, the Marianna FAWN station recorded almost 12″ more rain than normal through the first eight months of 2013. All of this above normal rainfall has come in three months, February, July and August. ( See second chart)
