Cotton dumping into a weigh wagon

This report summarizes results from the 2019 cotton demonstration variety trial at the West Florida Research and Education Center, Jay, Florida. It shows the performance of 17 cotton varieties. This data represents only one year.  Results should be considered over several locations and years before conclusions are valid.

The study area soil type was a Red Bay sandy loam. Cotton varieties were planted June 5 under strip tillage. Demonstration plots were eight rows 970 to 1520 feet long with a 36-in. row spacing. Standard production practices for non-irrigated cotton production were followed throughout the season. Fertilizer was applied on July 1 (490 lb 25.8-5.2-18.6/A). Herbicides were applied as follows: Roundup – 22 oz/A on June 24 and July 30. Tombstone insecticide at 2.0 oz/A was applied on September 5. Priaxor fungicide was applied at 6 oz/A on August 9. Mepiquat plant growth regulator was applied at 1 pt/A on August 9 at a reate of 1 pt/A on September 5. The cotton was harvested with a conventional spindle picker on November 22.

Weather data was obtained from Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN) station located on Jay research farm (Table 1). Seed cotton yields according to variety are shown in Table 2.
