This week’s featured video was published by Georgia Grown (similar to Fresh from Florida), which is a marketing service provided by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.  This video shares the wide range of legume vegetable crops that can be grown in the Southeast.  With depressed cotton, corn, soybean, and peanut prices, many farmers are considering alternative crops.  I was reminded this week that southern peas and green beans are vegetable crops that can be grown in the Panhandle that also can be mechanically harvested.  While the production systems for these crops are not that different from peanuts, the harvesting, processing and marketing of fresh legume vegetables is very different.  Watch the video to see the variety of legume vegetables that are grown in Georgia.
