Digging peanuts” is the favorite part of a long growing season for most peanut farmers.  Since the crop is underground, this is when they get their first look at the fruits of their labor.

Santa Rosa County Extension conducted a five-acre peanut variety demonstration with Mickey Diamond,  Diamond Farms in Jay, Florida. Since an in-person field day was not possible in August, we decided to do a short video to explain the project .  In the video, Mickey provides the background information on how the crop was managed. Dr. Barry Tillman, UF/IFAS Peanut Breeder, shared specific information on his breeding program and the 2020 variety demonstration. Finally, Dr. Robert Kemerait, UGA Peanut Pathologist, shared information on peanut diseases and nematodes. Once the varieties are harvested and the data is compilation is completed, a complete summary will be made available.
